Forpartum
About Forpartum

A living ecosystem for the woman becoming.

Forpartum translates Maternal Development into music, sound, stories, education, reflection, and support mothers can use in everyday life.

At its center is a maternal neuro-wellness app within a broader applied Maternal Development ecosystem. Forpartum was founded by Jamilia Shani: a mother, doula, midwife in training, maternal technology designer, and author of The Missing Map.

The disciplines behind the work.

Forpartum brings together many disciplines because motherhood touches every part of who we are. This work lives at the intersection of science, story, sound, somatic, and soul.

Writer

I write to make sense of maternal development and create language for what so often goes unnamed.

Music Producer

I create music and sound experiences that support regulation, expression, rest, and connection.

Researcher

I study and synthesize neuroscience, psychology, culture, and lived maternal experience.

Doula

I support mothers through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and the early seasons of maternal transformation.

Midwife in Training

I am deepening my clinical knowledge to better understand and serve mothers and babies with skill and care.

Maternal Technology Designer

I design neuro-wellness technology and maternal experiences grounded in how mothers actually live, process, and change.

The Origin

I built what I could not find.

When I had my son, everything changed. My mind. My body. My identity. My relationships. I was becoming someone new, and no one had prepared me for it.

I went looking for help. I found apps that tracked my baby's feeds, naps, and milestones. I found growth charts and checklists. I could not find anything for what was happening to me.

There was no app for the mother. No resource that explained the rewiring of my brain, the reshaping of my body, or the quiet unmaking and remaking of who I was. The world was watching my baby grow. No one was watching me become.

So I started building. First the language. Then the library. Then the app I searched for in the middle of the night. That is what led me to build and design Forpartum: a place made by a mother who needed it, for every mother who still does.

You were never meant to do this without a map.

Forpartum is my love letter to mothers.
To the ones who came before me.
To the ones beside me.
And to the ones becoming.
