Forpartum
Our Philosophy

A new philosophy for a new paradigm of motherhood.

Forpartum is built on a different understanding of mothers, the maternal body, and the transformation that motherhood brings.

This is our foundation.

The Field

Maternal Development

The interdisciplinary study of the psychological, neurological, cognitive, embodied, relational, social, cultural, and existential development of the mother across the lifespan.

The mother is not merely the environment in which a child develops. She is a developing adult human being undergoing a major biopsychosocial transformation of her own.

Matrescence names the transition of becoming a mother. Maternal Development is the larger lifespan discipline. The transition is a chapter. The field is the book.

Forpartum is where the field becomes something a mother can hold at 3 a.m. Everything we make lives inside it.

Our Core Beliefs

01

The mother is not a problem to be fixed.

She is a whole person becoming. Our role is to understand, not pathologize.

02

Regulation is not the same as relaxation.

True support restores safety, capacity, and connection, inside and out.

03

Mothers deserve language before judgment.

Words shape reality. We create language that validates, includes, and empowers.

04

The goal is integration, not bouncing back.

Motherhood changes you. The work is to integrate, not return to who you were.

05

Motherhood is not one singular experience.

It is diverse, cultural, nonlinear, and deeply individual. There is no one right way.

How This Shows Up

Evidence-informed

Rooted in neuroscience, psychology, and lived maternal experience.

Whole person care

We honor the body, mind, emotions, relationships, and identity.

Culturally aware

We challenge outdated narratives and center real, diverse stories of motherhood.

Practical & accessible

Tools and resources you can use in real life, not just in theory.

Compassion first

Because kindness, not pressure, creates the conditions for growth.

When we change the way we see mothers, we change the way we show up for them. And when mothers are supported, everyone benefits.
